Verimatrix Teams with Sigma to Integrate VideoMark with Leading Secure Media Processor; Integration of Robust Forensic Watermarking Covers 65 percent of Entire IPTV Set-Top Box Market
CHICAGO—(BUSINESS WIRE)—June 5, 2006—
Verimatrix, developer of the most widely deployed IPTV
content protection system with tier one operators, today announced at
Globalcomm that it has selected Sigma Design's SMP8634 system-on-chip
(SoC) solution to integrate its VideoMark(TM) user-specific forensic
watermarking. Set-top box (STB) manufacturers will now have the
advantage of VideoMark and hardware encryption embedded directly into
Sigma's new SoC that will protect premium content by tracing piracy to
the culpable individual.
Approximately 65 percent of all IPTV STBs are powered by Sigma's
secure media processors, including devices from Scientific Atlanta,
Philips, Wegener, UT Starcom and Eagle Broadband. The SMP8630 family
represents the first single-chip, highly-integrated solutions to
support high-definition MPEG-4.10 (H.264), SMPTE 421M (VC-1), WMV9,
MPEG-4.2 and MPEG-2 decoding. Incorporating flexible, advanced
audio/video processing, the SMP8630 family enables cost-effective
solutions for consumer products such as digital media adapters, IPTV
STBs, Blu-ray (BD) and HD-DVD player/recorders, and HDTVs.
"Verimatrix offers advanced content protection and a forensic
watermarking solution that is gaining momentum among large IPTV
operators. We want to provide a complete solution that will bring
their IPTV services to market faster, more cost-effectively and more
securely. Verimatrix is helping us accomplish this," said Ken Lowe,
vice president of strategic marketing, Sigma Designs.
VideoMark requires a small footprint on Sigma's platform. The mark
is applied with very low processor overhead, allowing individually
marked copies with identification information, without the requirement
to process individual videos for each receiver at the head-end. The
information from the head-end is reduced to a few bytes per movie.
"Consumers have demonstrated that they will pay a premium for high
definition content or early access to their favorite movies. Our
solutions deter piracy and make earlier release windows possible for
network operators," said Steve Oetegenn, EVP of Global Sales and
Marketing, Verimatrix. "Pre-integrating VideoMark at the chip level
gives Hollywood studios tremendous confidence in the service
provider's ability to protect digital content."
About VideoMark(TM)
VideoMark, an available feature of the Verimatrix Content
Authority System (VCAS), is the industry's first robust and invisible
content tracking solution that enables forensic, user-specific marking
of individual video copies to track piracy to the individual set-top
box (STB). Digital video delivered via STB with invisible,
user-specific watermarks creates an environment with unique advantages
to effectively secure the content. Every STB contains an individual
user identification, which is linked to that consumer via a unique
digital certificate. Because piracy can be traced back to the source,
and not just the network operator, content owners are ensured a higher
protection level than other distribution methods, such as DVDs and VHS
tapes. VideoMark complies with the rigorous requirements of the
Digital Cinema Initiatives, LLC (DCI).
